ML Lines Drawing

Lines of an ML - from the pages of the November, 1921 issue of The Yachting Monthly.

The caption that accompanied the image:

"As far as we are aware, the lines of an M.L. have never been reproduced before, but we have so often criticised the construction of these boats, that we make no comment on the present occasion. one thing will be immediately apparent to all: the M.L. is a smooth-water boat."

In fact, a more complete set of lines (purely for study purposes) had been published in Nutting's "The Cinderellas of the Fleet" in 1920 - and this particular drawing appears to be derived from those - perhaps from the same set of study plans?

Ironically, for all the criticism YM offers here (still under the helm of Herbert Reiach), a later editor, Maurice Griffiths would actually own and live aboard a converted ML by the late 1920's.

Finally, the very next issue of YM included a letter written by an R.N.V.R. officer who had commanded an ML during the war. He called into question YM's opinion, strongly defending the design based upon his experience during the war.
